Our Story

Hello and welcome—we are so excited to meet you! 

We are Kasey and Angela, along with our two little ones, William (6) and Eleanora (2), and we are truly honored to introduce ourselves as the new owners and caretakers of Royal Starr Resort. 

First and foremost, we want to thank the previous owners who have made Royal Starr what it is. We love the history and take pride in continuing the traditions.

Royal Starr is especially meaningful to me (Angela). I grew up in southern Minnesota farm country and spent my childhood summers coming to the Park Rapids area. I attended Bemidji State University, and my parents purchased a cabin on Lower Bottle Lake. Summers were filled with lake days and working at Companeros in Dorset—memories that shaped a love for this place. 

After college, I moved to Nashville, Tennessee to pursue songwriting. There I met my husband, Kasey who is originally from Kentucky. Kasey spent 10 years serving our country before moving to Nashville to pursue a career in engineering. Life was full and busy (especially once we had kids), but Minnesota always felt like home. When my mom passed away in the spring of 2024, returning to the Park Rapids area brought comfort and healing. Being here felt like reliving the very best parts of childhood. 

Our hope is simple: to continue what has already been so lovingly built here. We want Royal Starr to remain the kind of place families return to year after year—a place full of laughter, connection, and lifelong memories. 

You’ll also likely meet my dad, Mark, around the resort. He’s an old-school farmer who loves a good conversation and will often be found helping with the kids or chatting with guests in the lodge.
